Fractional-order model representations of apparent vascular compliance as an alternative in the analysis of arterial stiffness: an in-silico study

Abstract Objective . Recent studies have demonstrated the advantages of fractional-order calculus tools for probing viscoelastic properties collagenous tissue, characterizing arterial blood flow and red cell membrane mechanics, modeling aortic valve cusp. In this article, we present novel lumped-parameter equivalent circuit models apparent compliance using a capacitor (FOC). FOCs, which generalize capacitors resistors, display behavior that can capture both elastic viscous through power-law formulation. Approach The proposed framework describes dynamic relationship between blood-pressure input volume, linear differential equations. Main results show reasonable fit with in-silico data more than 4000 subjects. Additionally, strong correlations been identified parameter estimates central hemodynamic determinants as well pulse-wave velocity indexes. Significance Therefore, fractional-order-based paradigm shows notable potential an alternative tool in analysis stiffness.
